As the magnitude of destruction of Ukrainian homes, businesses and factories stream through nightly news, my thoughts stray to the dilemma of the survivors. Where would they begin? When this  nightmare is over, how would they move on with life?

I assume that Ukrainians embrace insurance coverage on their properties. Given that the damages were caused by a third party, shouldn’t insurance cover such losses? Sadly, traditional insurance policies generally have “War Exclusion Clause” for damages resulting from acts of an enemy. Would similar clause preclude surviving Ukrainians from needed funds to rebuild their homes and businesses? Ordinarily , sovereign immunity would apply to impair their prospect of private action against the Sovereign Russia. Is there remedy for the massive loss of property for these survivors? My mind wonders as the tragedy of man’s inhumanity to another unfolds.
